Terry Grant Feat Jennifer Horne "Be My Guide"
Out Now on Deep RecordsThose of you who are expecting another 'I'll Kill You', stop right where you are and turn back, you will only find disappointment. But if you are open to give this second outing from Nashville's Terry Grant a try, then keep reading. As long as you throw your preconceptions about the track away, there is a lot to enjoy about 'Be My Guide', including a massive peak time interpretation from 16 Bit Lolitas.
Again taking a mellowed out progressive route, subtle melodies and laid back patterns make up the composition on the Original Mix. Jennifer Horne's strong vocals make their appearance, but blissful as they may be, the degree of their emotion could never be compared to "I'll Kill You". But regardless, those who are just after some mellow vocal progressive to kick back to, this is a warm track indeed.
The real standout on this release is the 16 Bit Lolitas Mix. Opening up with a mellow beginning, this all changes as strong guitar lines are brought in to take the spotlight. These killer guitar riffs are thrown over some powerful backing percussion, and Jennifer Horne's vocals have been run through numerous filters to be given a dirty effect. Their careful integration into this unique composition is what makes them so powerful, and the "my guide" line wails free at the perfect moments to create strong emotion, sure to drive a dancefloor insane.
Deep Records have an interesting back catalogue of releases, and this is a welcoming addition to the list. Whilst sadly the Original Mix will suffer comparisons to 'I'll Kill You', the 16 Bit Lolitas Mix most certainly puts it in a new light, making it quite difficult to form comparisons to anything else that has come about lately. Definitely worth checking out for this solid interpretation alone.
