Tom Mangan Presents Hoodwacks "Girrls"

Out Now on Hood Records

Hoodwacks is Tom Mangan's group project alongside his friends Jamie Read and Gusta Wood. Between the three of them, they have been creating some seriously slick house music over the past few months, and have all come together to create the Hood Records imprint as well. 'Girrls' is the second release, following on from Tom's well received 'So We Can'. The question is whether all is still good in the Hood?

'Mix 1' starts in with some subtle percussive layers, with a vocal loop slowly being teased in as the main section of the track gets nearer. Shaking grooves and some hypnotic bass action keep the tempo upbeat, with the vocal diving through a series of filters and the overall track

shifts into a rocking electro section that takes over, rapid key changes and big stabs ensuring some rock star action on the dancefloor when this baby finally gets going.

'Mix 2' is a more jackin reinterpretation of 'Girrls', big acid hooks and a warm bassline coming together to create a rather large groove. Rhythm layers and deep beats suffocate the groove and the mix has a distinct 80s vibe to it, with an almost pop-style flavour to the mix. Throw on some of your favourite old clothes and boogie, but the mullets are not compulsory.

The man Mangan and his Hood continue to push the boundaries of house whilst aiming to remain faithful to their roots. 'Girrls' is another fun track that brings light relief and happy feeling to a set, like only these men can do.
