Behrouz & MV "In House We Trust 2"

Out Now on Yoshitoshi Recordings

Representing a cross-section of the best of Yoshitoshi Recording's past, present, and future, Martin Villeneuve teams with Behrouz to tell the story of Yoshitoshi and its sub label Shinichi. Yoshitoshi last released “In House We Trust 1” in 1996. It was mixed by Deep Dish who have now passed the off the torch to two up and comers in the dance community. Certainly the duo has high expectations set upon them as they must pick up the story where Deep Dish left off. It’s not an easy story to tell as they must cover six years of top releases from two labels within a one-hundred and forty-eight minute time constraint.

Six years ago Yoshitoshi continues on with its signature deep soul and rich rhythms as Behrouz effectively conveys on disk 1. He quite successfully uses the flyappella of Mysterious People’s “Fly Away” to introduce his story. Behrouz picks a lot of great vocal numbers to be included in his set such as Narcotic Thrust’s “Safe from Harm”, K.O.T’s. “I Want You” and concludes the set with Humate’s infamous “Choose Life”. Vocals are only used to set the mood at key points across the CD which balance the dark side that is created from Behrouz’s inclusion of tracks like the Luzon’s driving “Manilla Sunrise”, two shadowy tracks by Chiapet, and others. All in all, this set flows extremely well given the diversity of track selection.

For disk two Martin Villeneuve as Envy steps up to the decks armed with thirteen additional choice Yoshitoshi cuts. He takes a smooth approach and brings the conclusion of this CD set to a dark level. His mixing is flawless and his choices are top notch ranging from early Yoshitoshi releases such as Brother Brown’s “Under the Water” to a few that are yet to release like GPAL presents GHOS “Beneath the Surface”. Martin even includes two of his own productions under his ENVY guise including a remix of Faith which we fell in love with on Deep Dish’s Global Underground.

With this sequel to the first “In House We Trust”, Behrouz and Martin Villeneuve prove that the tracks that make up the Yoshitoshi/Shinichi catalogue are timeless and inseparable from one another regardless of release date. This collection is essential.
