Bernard Leon Howard III Feat 80 "Marscarter"
Out Now on Shinichi RecordingsBernard Leon Howard III has been producing music for many years, producing material in genres such as house and drum and bass and has also released material including a long player called 'The Stereo Couple' on Sunburn Recordings a couple of years ago, which was later picked by MTV US as the soundtrack for their reality based show 'The Real World'. Now he turns his hand and attention back to the dancefloor with a track that has already gained the attention of many djs, that track is the monstrous Marscarter.
With four mixes over two slabs of wax, there should be something here for everyone. Be it the original, focusing on the subtle vocal tones of vocalist 80, whos voice is layered over a funky b-line, the vocal dictating the direction in which BLHIII takes the track, and the result is a funky house number that is quite different to many thinks I have heard in a while. Joshua's Dub on the other hand is aimed directly at the dancefloor, choosing to teasingly and sparsely use the vocal to create a track that has oodles of depth, but somewhat lacks as it removes what is pretty much the main element of the track. However, some people have stated they do prefer this mix, so I'm sure it will keep some people happy.
Next up is Richard Morel's Pink Noise Mix, a more tripped out journey into the deep, with major emphasis being placed on subtle effects and 80's vocal locked in with a house groove, it all sounds very porn move influenced indeed. Topping it all off is the mammoth John Debo and Steve Porter Deported Vocal, a deep sub bass monster that is built around lots of filtered bass and effected pads which lift 80's voice to new levels. This duo continue their amazing production and sound on this mix to great effect.
So there you have it. One of the most anticipated releases on Shinichi has landed, and it has indeed been worth the wait. Whilst the Joshua Dub is a diversion away from the rest of the package, it adds variety to an already strong package. Make sure you snap this up.
