Cube "Porn Star Girl"

Cube are Tim Scott, Stephen Bent and vocalist Dani G, and they have enjoyed reasonable success on 3Beat before with the track 'Electronic' and the guys also produce as Element N on their own Binary Records label and more recently on Fuju. Now they deliver the first Cube track with Tim on vox entitled 'Porn Star Girl'.

The Original is a tough driving affair that builds with tight tech house grooves and off the wall hooks forming the basis over which Tim's dark vocals are layered subtly as quirky effects simmer and bubble behind the vocal hook. Catchy, but not overly exciting.

The Freeloader mix is a trip into more melodic realms, dreaming female vox effects wash over the groovy bassline before building into a nice melodic house affair, which more than makes up for the shortfallings of the original.

Following on from Electronic which featured the outfit's usual vocalist Dani, they would be advised to let her do the singing and concentrate on what they do best, the production. A disappointing release from the 3Beat label.
