Digby & Oliver "Sunshower"

Out Now on Zero Tolerance

These two masterminds are back again with a storming track from down under. With a main mix, and a dub to choose from, as well as a nice little intro track that just fills it up, this is a nice gem to have in your box.

The main mix starts out with a funny throaty sound, like a deep distorted frog. High hats join it, making the song pick up. A short drop introduces some computer like techy sounds, and the rumbling bass underneath gradually comes in. There are all sorts of spaced out delayed clicks, and the frog sound comes in again, building it up. Swirling sounds, and some interspersed bongos come in to fill up the song. Finally the synth starts and pulls you in. The melody is nice and eerie, but still layered with effects. A quick halt, created by a twinkling piano type synth sound, swings it into full motion.

As the break comes it falls off into all the computer sounds, and completely disappears, a short breath, and then comes the frog sound, and a nice break beat to pump it up. We go back into the full four on the floor beat, with crunchy sounds, and a funky feel. With washes of sound, and little breaks till the end of the tune, the song winds down.

On the flip we have the dub mix, which is pulsing and deeper, with sounds from a dark place. It starts out with dark stabs and a deep bass groove. Growing layers of sound, and delayed effects, really make this thick. The song continues with short pauses, and backward drum hits. When the break happens, it's much more minimal, only leaving the computer sounds, and then picking up right back into the song. This is a late night stomper, and will appeal to the crowd that likes it a bit darker.

The added extra bonus intro is a little piece of the song, using the synth in a different way, and utilizing all the computer sounds. This is much more spaced out and light, and really could make for a great opener track, or something to use as a filler in another track that needs something more. A very useful little song.

Digby and Oliver never cease to amaze me with their songs, and this one, again, is brilliant.
