Gene Carbonell "The Beat"

Out Now on Choo Choo Records

Gene Carbonell first becamse part of Choo Choo's roster almost four years ago when the track 'Re-Vision 2' alongside producer D.Scott as Dark Driver, and since then he has gone on to have an increasingly busy dj schedule as well as overlooking Choo Choo's US bookings arm. He has also decided to fly solo in the production field and 'The Beat' is this first of his own offerings.

As the beats kick in and the groove starts up, it's not long till the filtered house influence shines through on the 'Original Mix', complimented by a slightly arpeggiated snare riff. Deep pads cause the evolving groove to ripple and allowing the main vocal hook some space in which to breathe and gain prominence, building in pace and really testing the speakers with intent on sending waves through the dancefloors, abusing everything in sight. An introduction to torture, Choo Choo style.

Gene's 'Dub' on the flip goes for a heads down, into the groove workout, with intrictate layers of percussion working in tandem with the atmospheric loops and dissected vox to slowly build the mood within the mix, making this a perfect warm up tool or even more suited to an early hours dj set. The results will speak for themselves.

Forthcoming material sees new blood on the roster as Carlos Fauvrelle and Mert Yucel join the Choo Choo family. It will be interesting to see what they bring to the dance, with Choo Choo's ongoing plans for 2003 and beyond.
