Guy Gerber & Sahar Z "Kennys Back"

Out Now on Whoop Records

Whoop return with the eagerly anticipated Kenny's Back by Guy Gerber and Sahar Z. Hailing from Israel, Guy Gerber has had a very successful career as a producer and also with his band, Coco Beat. Sahar Z on the other hand is one of the top DJs in those parts, and is a resident at the highly acclaimed Haoman 17 club. Having struck up a friendship, this duo put together this track which soon found it's way into the clutches of Whoop Records, so let's get on this and find out how hot it is.

The Original Mix kicks in with some bouncy synth percussion, with light snares rolling in the background, letting the soft melody ease its way through the bassline as synths clatter in its aftermath, building the mood at a nice consistent pace. The synths become more twisted, with a nice electro vibe leading the track into deeper realms, the sample becoming more dominant and giving a real sense of depth. By now most people are thinking 'now where do I know this from'. (The sample is from 'Roads' by Portishead if you're not sure). Twisted synth and snare action leads us onward, before a massive drop into the break lets the sample take precedence and really takes the track off in a tougher faster direction, fading to a nice reverb effected electronic sound as the journey ends.

On the remix we have one of the remixers of the moment, and another Whoop artist, Mike Monday, who turns in a filthy rework that has one thing in mind... to get you on the floor dancing your ass off. Right from the start the pace is manic, the stabs twisted, and the bassline funky as hell. Mike works the track to the max and as we enter the break for momentary respite, the pace picks right back up where it left off and continues right on again. Kudos to the mad Mr Monday, you did good.

Keep your eyes peeled for forthcoming releases from Redanka and Dave Gardner, as well as more material from this promising duo, both collectively and in a solo capacity. Further proof that Israel has plenty more surprises in store for the progressive music scene.
