Humate "Choose Life"

Out Now on Yoshitoshi Recordings

Humate is best known for his vintage classics from the early days. Tracks such as "Love Stimulation", "East", "3.1" and "3.1" hold Humate high in the rank of classics. “Choose Life” was originally released two years ago on Superstition Records to huge acclaim, and now, as 2002 winds down, Deep Dish re-expose this favorite of theirs by giving it a double 12” remix release on their Yoshitoshi imprint. It contains great mixes by Rob Rives, Thomas Schumacher and Gee Shock.

The Rob Rives remix was first introduced to the dancefloor at last years WMC by Deep Dish at their Yoshitoshi Party to “jaw dropping reactions”. It also secured a set closing spot on Yoshitoshi’s flagship compilation “In House We Trust 2”. It’s no wonder it has met with such early success. It’s deep throbbing bass line and smooth vocal charm enhance this dance classic. The sparkling melody is brilliantly layered over the soft vocals or the original adding high-end depth to the deep bass beat.

Rob’s Dub mix strips out the melody but leaves some of the vocal reworking in place. It will storm dancefloors with its initial warm up of driving rhythm and catchy vocal hooks. Mind bending samples are thrown in that are off the hook. While this remix maintains a tough, charging momentum, it is not the most devastating remix on this double pack. That is a toss up between legendary techno producer Thomas Schumacher’s remix and the Gee Shock remix. Gee Shocks pounds with deep punchy kick drums and a strong arrangement of spatially arranged highs, while Schumacher twists this classic into a techno infused alteration with an intimidating undertone.

Yoshitoshi once again prove their strength in releasing nothing but quality productions to dancefloors around the world. This doublepack will present you with a tough decision when deciding which remix to play. Buying “Choose Life” however should be a no brainer.
