Mara "Heretic"

Out Now on Akademia Recordings

Mara's Desanitize was Barry and Sara's first foray into the world of breakbeats, and the accolades the track received from both djs and music lovers alike that it was re-released recently with an excellent rework from Terminalhead. Since the Sheffield duo have recently launched the Akademia imprint with DJ Filth, it was only appropriate they would contribute some material to the label, and here is the first and hopefully not last eagerly anticipated offering from them, Heretic.

As the wheels on this beast start to turn, soft electro beats soon descend into evil stutter percussion and dark b-lines fighting for supremacy. As the track is pushed forward the vocal sounds 'Let the games begin' and this is where the track really starts going off the set path and just lets rip. Imagine a steel works going full steam ahead and you're not even halfway there. This is one track that will threaten to lamp you one in the face unless you get with the program and lose it on the dancefloor. Mara once again show they can more than cut it in the breaks scene.

The remix comes from new boys Wrecked Angle. This duo consisting of Bedroom Bedlam winner and fast rising dj Steve Gerrard and his friend and studio partner Russel Pearce take the track into the depths, delivering a slowly evolving progressive breaks workout that retains the best elements of the original and gives the whole track a big room feel, that will more than grab attention on the dancefloor.

So there you have it, a welcome return to the breakbeat arena for Mara, an introduction to a duo you will soon be hearing a lot more about thanks to the forthcoming track 'Acid Funk', and quite possibly the most essential cut on this imprint yet. The future is looking very twisted indeed.
