Pavel Bidlo, originally from the Czech Republic, has found a home for his (prior white label release)12” of ‘Wildlife’ which originally surfaced two years ago. That home is the Yoshitoshi offshoot Shinichi. After being signed, Deep Dish commissioned Pavel to do new material, ‘Hope’ to compliment that ‘Wildlife’ track. He delivered ‘Hope’ for us all.

Wildlife comes in two flavors. The Complet Mix and the Bassic Dub. For the Complet story, Pavel packs the track full of spacey funk and delivers one hell of a snappy breaks breakdown towards the XX. Short is the style of the breakdown pause leaving no time to catch your breath before you are thrown back into it the thick of the ‘Wildlife’. Echo’d vocal samples are riddled throughout which are sure to cause a giddy panic. If they get to be too much for you however, flip to the Bassic Dub.

Hope also comes in two flavors on this double pack, namely the Bassil Mix and the Cannibal Mix. The Basil Mix comes in with a deep bass kick and other percussion knick-knocking about. It should allow a DJ to deliver a smooth mix into this track. The momentum fully slams in after about a minute when the bass laden monster comes into being. Riding atop the bass line is a narrative of vocals that are for the most part hard to decipher, I think intentionally. It creates moody atmosphere. It really works. “A dream is but a dream” and “Lasts Forever”.

With the same body and soul as the Cannibal Mix, the Bassil Mix sways with stretched vocals and beautiful, reversed synth patterns. This is one sexy house cut with its relaxed essence created through the use of male chants and a somber horn line. The drums are tough and sharp but are covered in a blanket of softness when the melody sways itself into the track. It’s of Circulation caliber.

Pavel’s sound has been described as being tribal funky trancey spacey and deep which puts him in perfect alignment with the forward thinking, progressive-sounds of Shinichi. This double pack is a favorite with Roger Sanchez and Danny Howells and has received critical acclaim from Barry Gilbey and Bill Hamel. Pick it up after it’s release on July 22.

“Singles are meant to be raw and be played for a short time. When its done you know its done.”
