POB "Luna"
Out Now on Platipus RecordsLong-time Platipus artist and trance bod POB teams up with Boyd Westerman on this release of "Luna." The Original Mix is metallic, techy & atmospheric with a seductive vocalist singing "oh yea" alongtop, and harkens back to a time when Platipus embraced the more melodic side of progressive.
The Rouge Mix is a pumping tribal-trancy affair which highlights the vocalist as she tries to win us over with her "oohs" and "ahhs." Carrying forth from the last mix, the intensity is turned up a few notches. The metallic break-beats take a backseat to reverberated congos and a strong kick delivers a force that will knock out any dancefloor. The mix continues along with gated synths and more signature POB/Platipus-styled acid stabs which all slowly fade to nothingness, making it ideal for dj's.
The third mix is delivered by Yoshitoshi's own Luzon, who have offered several hits including "EL Baguio" track and more recently "Manilla Sunrise" featured on GU21. Continuing in the same grain as these prior tracks, the sexy female vocal is layered atop a primal tribal rhythm and whirling synths that furnish the remix with an airy surreal-like atmosphere.
The fourth version comes in the form of a Dub from POB himself. It utilizes the metallic breakbeats from the original mix, as well as fragmented elements of the vocal, juxtaposing them between an analogous bouncy pulsating bassline and quirky melodic synth riffs.
Finally, the package is made complete with a Dub from Luzon, who basically offer a reprise to their above mix. Less synthy and more rhythmic, this one effortlessly trods along with much of the vocal still intact, in spite of the title of the mix.
The seductive female vocals coupled with the solid production make this a worthwhile addition to any progressive dj's collection.
