Syntax "Pray"

Out Now on White Label

This 12" came through my letterbox on a basic A4 sheet with a contact number for further details. Very ominious. Currently unsigned but already turning heads with a few of the major djs. Syntax's Pray is a very suspicious, yet intriguing record indeed.

The Original Mix utilises a large rolling bassline, with big room hooks and snares, with a tough vocal in the Underworld vein, rising arrangments and solid production hold it all together until atmospherics kick in during the break and send the track souring through the roof. Imagine one of those big room vocal monsters Sasha always seems to pull out of nowhere and you arent far wrong. Devastating.

The Instrumental is a nice alternative mix, which utilises much of the same structure but is more of a building tune than a floor mover like the vocal mix. However, whilst not in the same league, it still has the potential to do the business.

With Mr Tong already having jumped on this, and John Digweed having played it out a few times, no doubt the buzz will soon start to stir around this mysterious 12". Until then keep your eyes peeled and snap one of the few white labels if you're lucky enough to see one in your local record emporium. This vocal monster will provide a nice additional secret weapon to any dj box.
