The Blondini Gang "Helter Skelter"

The Blondini Gang may be more familar to you under the guise of Animated. The men involved, Duncan Forbes (the other half of Spooky with Charlie May) and Laurent Webb (of Get F**ked fame) have a wide and varied catalogue of productions and remixes to their credit, and this is the latest offering from them, 'Helter Skelter', courtesy of those nice Global Underground people's Coded imprint.

The 'Original Mix' is a breakbeat track with a difference. A big acid bassline rocks the foundations of the track as it gets off to a start. Soon chords and pads are layered into the bassgroove and things start to get slightly more upbeat and twisted. The pure pounding beats continue until soft ambience washes over the dirty beats and gives them a rougher edge.

The 'Smart Alex OCD Mix' on the flipside is a bit more experimental and follows no particular path. Big acid pads and dark snares form the basis around which this mix is worked and it just goes darker and harder, the beats really dropping hard into the mix like a barrage of bombs. The mood eases off in the second half but overall, this is some seriously twisted shit.

Something a bit different from the Coded camp following on in the footsteps of Pako and Frederik's Western Approaches, but as they say variety is the spice of life.
