Yunus Guvenen "Delta EP"
Out Now on Silver Planet RecordingsYunus first came onto the music scene with the track 'Nefes' on the now defunct Fire Recordings. However it was with his work as Mavi on Regress and with his later work on Silver Planet with tracks including 'Red Pilot'. Now he returns with his third single for Silver Planet, this time delivering the 'Delta EP', featuring the tracks 'Tigris' and 'Euphrates'. Named after two rivers starting in the region of Antolia, Turkey, the tracks
'Tigris' starts off with a deep techno influenced bassline that forms the underlying foundations of the track. As an energy starts to build within the centre of the track as a house groove engulfs the groove, containing the sounds into one slowly evolving soundscape. Disorted synth arrays swirl within the break before a melody line kicks in without warning, as this aural river flows without restraint to the big blue unknown.
'Euphrates' is on more of a laid back spiritual tip, a slow rolling bass forming the mysterious force within that guides the chords along somewhat free moving as heavenly voices float to the space above each time momentary space in the groove occurs. The break strays away from the usual peak time drop, instead opting for more minimal approach, as if to introduce some warmth into the somewhat mystical mood of the track
Whilst probably not as accessible to those used to the more peak time material of Yunus's, there is a story behind the deeper direction of these tracks which will explain the inspiration of the EP. Within Antolia, Turkey starts two rivers, the River 'Tigris' and the River 'Euphrates' which possess a certain mysterious history with the inhabitants of Turkey. Collectively they are famous for representing one of the most important 'Deltas' in the world, and it is from these ideas that the somewhat personal influence for this somewhat intriguing EP comes.
