Yunus Guvenen "IP True / Kaiser"

Out Now on Silver Planet Recordings

Yunus Guvenen has had a well travelled life that spans the globe from Paris to Istanbul and across to New York and Boston also. It was whilst in the states he produced the track 'Nefes' that happened to find its way into the hands of one Cass who signed it to his label in pretty sharp fashion. From here he developed more material under the name of Mavi which was picked up for a series of EP's on the US label Regress, what was the old Twilo label, and now after forming a friendship with James Holden and the guys at Silver Planet he delivers the first in a multi single deal for Silver Planet, the AA side IP True / Kaiser.

Metallic drum effects puncturing through a sweeping bassline signifies the start of IP True, before a series of riffs and panning synths lift the track as it starts to build momentum, soft chords taking us into the spacey break as effects rumble in what sounds like an echoing void, then the track descends into a dubby funky breakbeat, which drills at the bassline, weaving in and out of the chord progression with relentless aplomb. Very cleverly produced, and a brilliant showcase of Yunus's varied musical influence.

Over on the flip, is the atmospheric Kaiser, its smokey dubbed percussion rolling along sublimely, as the atmospheric fx pans back and forth like a wave washing against the shore and a deep male vocal wails from beneath the surface, synths trickling along as the existance of God is questioned in the captivating vocal fx, fading into a panning synth break as the vocal becomes almost soulful, fading to dubby percussion on the outset as soft synths weave in and out of the bassline as the track fades into the distance.

In his new found home with the family at Silver Planet, Yunus seems to have found a spiritual haven from which he can develop his sound include a more dancefloor element than his previous releases on other labels, but he has proved that he can bridge that void with relative ease. His next release, Red Pilot will be one worth waiting for.
